In 1984 Vancouver Island Brewery started with the mission of crafting all natural craft beers for Islanders to enjoy. Using the finest ingredients combined with skill and patience we handcraft our ales and lagers in small batches. We like to think that we’ve got it good brewing fresh, local beer in one of the greatest places in Canada. Whether it’s fishing for the big one in the Alberni Canal, carving the slopes of Mount Washington or catching a wave in the Pacific Rim, if you’re enjoying one of those “we’ve got it good” moments too, chances are a Vancouver Island Brewery beer is never far away.

Phillips Brewing Company was founded in Esquimalt B.C. on a pile of credit card debt and the audacious principle that quality ingredients, attention to detail and a little creative flair can produce great beer. Over 10 years later our address may have jumped the bridge from Esquimalt to Victoria, but our pursuit of innovation through fermentation and commitment to crafting quality beer the remains the same. Try it for yourself at Phillips HQ—located at 2010 Government St.—where 6 taps of fresh draught beer invite you to fill a growler, or try a taster or two. Cheers!

Meet our Brewmaster Sean Hoyne, with twenty-three years in the craft brewing industry; Sean Hoyne has earned a reputation for being one of the finest brewmasters in the Pacific Northwest.
Taught by one of the best, Sean had the privilege to learn his trade from Frank Appleton, one of the most influential brewers in BC. Together, they built Swans Brewpub in 1989, where Sean then became brewmaster.
In 1998 Sean moved on to help create the Canoe Brewpub, where he stayed on as the brewmaster for 13 years. During this time he developed a portfolio of award winning beers and a h3 reputation in the local community. Finally, after years of dreaming about owning his own brewery, he said goodbye to the Canoe Brewpub and began the next chapter of his story.
Through Hoyne Brewing Company, Sean looks to continue his tradition of brewing the finest craft beer with uncompromising quality and consistency batch after batch. Following the advice of Frank Appleton, “make great beer and the rest will follow”, Sean does just that. He seeks to make the best beer possible, beer that is interesting, flavorful, and enjoyable at every level. Beer that looks good in the glass, feels good in the mouth, and lifts the spirit.
Tofino Brewing Company brews exclusively small batch, handcrafted ales that pair best with life on the West Coast. Our natural, unfiltered beer is brewed with whole ingredients using only barley, hops, yeast, and water. High quality Canadian pale malt serves as the backbone of our beer and European specialty malts are brought in for character and body. We brew with healthy amounts of hops grown here in the Pacific Northwest and, of course, fresh Clayoquot Sound water.
From deep in our mountain spring comes the cleanest, freshest water for our Saltspring Island Ales. Piped straight from the spring into the brew house, this gorgeous water is combined with natural ingredients to create a lineup of distinctly Island-made ales. Whenever possible, we source local ingredients such as our own island-grown hops, honey and heather. Our highly flavorful beers pair wonderfully with good food and are the perfect accompaniment to locally-sourced gastronomic fare. Brewed and bottled entirely by hand, our beer is made in small batches using traditional, unhurried methods. Our beer is fresh and unpasteurized. No preservatives, no chemicals, just purely delicious beer.

There are 105 recognized styles of beer in the world of brewing and the brewers at Longwood have over 40 recipes to choose from. Our traditional ales are hand drawn using classic original English beer engines and are served at a cellar temperature of 10 Centigrade (50 F.), while our cold ales and lagers are served out of our custom ceramic beer towers at 5 Centigrade (40 F.) These serving methods and temperatures allow our patrons to enjoy our beers in the manner and temperature that they were meant to be. Whereas space does not allow us to list all the beers that we make through the course of the year, the following is a list of what have become favourites and the chances are good that you will find many of them on tap when you visit our pub or restaurant.
